The mother of a North-East man killed when the car he was travelling in smashed into a motorway barrier last night condemned as inadequate the two-year jail sentence handed to the driver.

Kevin Mallows, 20, of Potter Place, Stanley, County Durham, died instantly along with colleagues Neil Armstrong, also 20, of Staithes Road, Redcar, and Simon Butterfield, 20, from the Wirral, on a slip- road to the M602 in Manchester last year.
