Summary
Tsunamis are a devastating natural phenomena which have been wreaking havoc for centuries. However, whenever the word is now mentioned, just one such event springs to mind - the incident which took place on December 26, 2004, in the Indian Ocean. It killed approximately 230,000 people - the largest number ever recorded for this type of natural disaster. It struck without warning, and effected Indonesia, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives, even spreading as far as Kenya.
