Image: No-nonsense interviewer. Best Known For: Giving politicians a hard time on Newsnight. Early Life: Born May 11, 1950, in Leeds. He was educated at public school Malvern College. On leaving, he studied English at St Catharine's College, Cambridge. He began his news career with a job in local radio before moving to Northern Ireland. He spent three years in Belfast, where he became the first full-time TV current affairs reporter. Career: In 1977, Paxman moved to London where he was a reporter on Tonight, before working for Panorama, a job which allowed him to cover stories in Beirut, Uganda, Zimbabwe, the USA, and Europe. His popularity led to him being given stints on the Six O'Clock News. In 1986, Paxman took over Breakfast News, and joined Newsnight three years later. The programme helped create his reputation as a fearsome interviewer, although his image was softened following a moving appearance on Who Do You Think You Are? Paxman also hosts University Challenge, and recently presented the art history series The Victorians. Away from TV, he has written several books and loves fly-fishing. Love Life: Lives with his partner of 26 years, Elizabeth Clough. They have three children. Don't Mention: Sneering. "I hate the word," he claims. "I can't help how my face looks. So sneering is not something I'm happy or comfortable about when people use it to describe me." Quote: On his job: "I think it's pretty straightforward really. Neighbours (Five, 5.30pm) The saga of Dan and Libby's wedding has gone on for so long, you could be forgiven for thinking it was never going to happen. With Sam now out of their lives, it seemed the path was clear for them to make it down the aisle - until Monday's episode, in which Libby spent an awful lot of time doubled up in agony. But, ever the trooper, she's determined to marry the lovely Dan at a swanky stately home, disregarding her health in the process. Kym Valentine, Jane Hall, Stefan Dennis and Tottie Goldsmith star. UEFA Champions League Live (ITV1, 7.30pm) Steve Rider is joined by Andy Townsend to present tonight's semi-final second-leg tie between Arsenal and Manchester United from the Emirates Stadium, as the sides battle it out for the right to face either Chelsea or Barcelona in the final. United's finest performances in this season's competition have come away from Old Trafford, as Inter Milan and FC Porto found to their costs in the two previous rounds.
