The commander in charge of six Red Caps who were killed by an Iraqi mob denied yesterday the families' claims that the men had been sent into a "powder keg".

Colonel Thomas A Beckett [ok] was the first witness at the inquest on the soldiers, who included Corporal Paul Long, 24, of South Shields, and Corporal Simon Miller, 21, of Washington.
