THE huge drive for renewable energy solutions is good news for the environment - and good news too for the Port of Tyne, which offers the ideal facilities and location to support some major new developments.

At the inauguration this summer of the Gunfleet Sands wind farm off the UK east coast, Energy Minister Charles Hendry said: "We're surrounded by some of the windiest coast in the world and that's a resource we've got to use. I want to make sure we grab all the opportunities the rapidly expanding offshore wind industry has to offer, and that offshore wind power can come of age under this Government."
