TESCO has lost a key battle over plans to regenerate Sunderland City Centre.

Tesco, which owns the he former Vaux Brewery site in the heart of the city, wants to open a massive supermarket there - and it opposes plans by regeneration group Sunderland Arc, backed by the city council, to create homes and offices there.
