While rumours were rife last night that Kieron Dyer's future hung in the balance following his latest hamstring injury, Newcastle United remain confident they can save his career.

Dyer broke down in training on the eve of United's 3-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion just hours after caretaker manager Glenn Roeder insisted the injury problems which have wrecked his season were finally behind him. And with the midfielder now certain to miss out on a place in England's World Cup squad for Germany 2006, there are growing fears the 27-year-old may never play again after the reoccurrence of the hamstring injury which has restricted him to just 13 appearances this season.
