Summary


Sunderland ended a run of four consecutive defeats with a single goal victory over Bolton at Durham last night.

It was a reasonably entertaining game and a bonus for Sunderland was the impressive form of Tommy Smith before he was subbed on the hour. The ex-Watford striker was sharp throughout, scoring the winner and having another two strikes cleared just short of the line in a performance that must have impressed watching assistant manager Ian 'Taff' Evans.
