DAYS after the birth of his first child, Gareth Breese could be asked to play an important part in Durham's title push if selected for his first County Championship match of the season.

The Jamaican off-spinner is largely a one-day specialist nowadays but missed Sunday's Pro40 League victory over Worcestershire to return home following the birth of his daughter. The 32-year-old arrived back in Britain yesterday morning and could now be in line for his first Championship appearance as a bowler since May 2007 if the Basingstoke pitch is as spin-friendly as Durham expect.
