Summary
AFTER 1945, the rate of teenage suicide around the world rose significantly. That was hardly surprising in a world ravaged by war. In more recent years, the rate for young women has levelled out. The rate for men has not. In fact, it has continued to rise and suicide is now the biggest killer of young men between the ages of 16 and 24.
In the UK and Ireland, approximately 6,300 people take their lives every year, which is more than double the death toll from road traffic accidents and 12 times the number of deaths by homicide. It is estimated that at least 140,000 people attempt suicide each year in England and Wales alone. A suicide takes place every 84 minutes in UK and Ireland and 75% of them are by males.See the full content of this document
