Summary
IN what could be a major breakthrough in coarse fishing management locally, the clubs that make up the Tyne Anglers Alliance have now received the agreement of Northumbrian Water to establish the far west settling pond at Whittle Dene as a nursery pond.
Getting some species of coarse fish to spawn successfully this far north is often difficult despite advances in global warming, yet purchased yearlings could grow on and be used to stock local waters. Phil Rippon for the EA has now agreed the new venture and, in addition to a nursery it is envisaged that this pond could also be used as a holding pond for any rescued fish taken in at short notice from the EA for re-homing at a later date. The 36 hours of torrential rain from Thursday evening to Saturday morning ruined sport on the region's rivers last weekend but since then conditions have improved greatly and prospects are good for sport on the Tyne, Wear and Tees this weekend.See the full content of this document
