ALAN Smith has no intention of leaving Newcastle United and is planning for life at St James' Park long after the transfer window shuts.

The signing of a defensive midfield rival in Cheick Tiot prompted some speculation that Smith, one of the higher earners in the squad, may be made available by United - who are operating under strict financial constraints this summer. Newcastle's owners loosened the purse strings to broker a pounds 3.5million deal for the Ivory Coast international but that is unlikely to mean that they will be spending heavily before next week's transfer deadline.
