LAST week, everything was progressing smoothly towards The De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship when the man in charge of the show at Slaley Hall, golf operations manager Mark Stancer, resigned.
At that stage, there was less than four weeks to go and less well- run organisations would have gone into meltdown with the four-day tournament, which features former Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance and ex-Open champion Bob Charles, starting on Thursday August 21. But Mr Stancer's departure was amicable and De Vere have imported Keith Pickard, their golf and leisure director at Oulton Hall in Leeds, to pick up the reins in Northumberland, while Oulton's golf operations manager, Ross Whitfield, holds the fort in Yorkshire.See the full content of this document
