FROM the moment Anton Ferdinand stepped on to a football pitch as a nine-year-old with West Ham United he has been told he will never be as good as his big brother Rio.

When you are the younger sibling of one of the most naturally talented centre-backs to emerge in a generation, when you are related to a player (pictured right) who has gone on to become captain of both Manchester United and England, it is a huge shadow to step out of. At times, Ferdinand must have felt as if he was running uphill with a mighty weight on his back, yet he does not seem to have been adversely affected by the constant comparisons.
