FEARS of a looming UK recession were fuelled yesterday by a survey showing the UK's dominant services sector shrank at its fastest rate for more than 12 years last month.

The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply's (CIPS) services index - measures overall activity for the industry - was 46 in September.
