STEM cell scientists in the North-East yesterday applied for permission to create hybrid human and cow embryos.

The team from Newcastle's Centre for Life lodged an official application with the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) to produce embryos that are 99.9% human and 0.1% cow.
