EDUCATION bosses have declared war on parents who drop their children off directly outside the school gates by giving both police and traffic wardens the power to issue on-the-spot fines.

Durham County Council has obtained new powers which means zigzag lines and School Keep Clear markings are no longer simply advisory. Police officers and traffic wardens now have the power to issue pounds 60 fixed-penalty notices to anyone parked on the lines dropping off children.
