AMASSIVE shake-up of NHS services can only succeed if the Government listens to the concerns of health experts, North East union leaders warned yesterday. GP practices are set to be handed responsibility for most health services under proposals to change the structure of health services in England.

Under coalition plans described as the biggest revolution in the NHS for 60 years, up to pounds 80bn could be distributed to family doctors in a move that will see strategic health authorities and primary care trusts (PCTs) scrapped.
