Northumberland's Gary Robson pulled off the shock of the tournament so far as he beat favourite Michael van Gerwen 3-2 in a first-round game at the Lakeside yesterday, writes Jon Wilde.

Dutchman van Gerven, 17, had been expected to make a huge impact after a phenomenal 2006 which ended with him beating number one Martin Adams in the Winmau World Masters final.
