Three heroic football fans who jumped into the rough North Sea to rescue four teenage girls swept away by a riptide were last night honoured for their bravery.

Nick Graham and Craig Flannery were enjoying watching the England against Trinidad and Tobago World Cup match on June 14 at the 42nd Street bar in Whitely Bay, managed by Kevin Hindmarsh, when they heard desperate screams.
