IT may sound like a brand of Italian coffee, but La Coppa Lipton has a special place in British football history.
It's the official name for what has become known as the first World Cup trophy, won twice - in 1909 and 1911 - in unlikely fashion by County Durham club West Auckland FC. And it was an even more extraordinary feat, given that in their second final the score read: Juventus 1, West Auckland 6. The 1909 competition featured Turin from Italy, Stuttgarter Sportfreunde from Germany and FC Winterthur of Switzerland. Next month, West Auckland FC travel to Italy to play against a young Juventus team in a match that will commemorate the centenary of what has become one of football's most romantic episodes.See the full content of this document
