APOLICEMAN who shot his mother-in-law while on bail for his wife's murder before turning the gun on himself was freed to kill because of his position, MPs were told yesterday.

Metropolitan Police inspector Garry Weddell, blasted Traute Maxfield with a shotgun at her Hertfordshire home in January, when he was awaiting trial for the murder of his wife Sandra.
