A policeman has been hailed a hero after leaping into a swirling river to save the life of a drowning teenager.

Traffic officer David Morgan raced from his patrol car late at night and plunged into the water to rescue the 19-year-old, who had tumbled off Framwellgate Bridge, in Durham City centre.
