PRIVATE equity company Permira is rumoured to be preparing a pounds 2.5bn bid for music company EMI, which has acts such as Coldplay and the Rolling Stones on its books.

Last week EMI admitted it had received "a preliminary approach" which "may or may not" lead to an offer made for the company.
