NEXT week will see the Government's independent panel on forestry visit the North East to discover more about the forests and woodlands in this region and to gather views about the future of this vital resource.

The panel was set up to advise government on the future of forests and woods in England following the outcry over the proposal - since withdrawn - to transfer power from the Forestry Commission, which owns 18% of woodlands, to the private sector.
