BUSINESS leaders in the North have told the Government A1 improvements are so important - that they would consider paying for them themselves.

The Royal Institute of Charted Surveyors has grown so fed up with the Government refusing to fund A1 dualling north of Newcastle that it has suggested its members would pay up front for the improvements if ministers pay them back in a PFI scheme.
