IT'S a lucky 13th cast-off to the new fishing season for anglers at Northumbrian Water's premier reservoirs, which open on Saturday.

And as a record 170,000 prime rainbow trout are reared for stocking this year, previous records have already tumbled as final details from last season are announced. There were 54,100 angler visits to the premier waters - up from 44,800 on 2008.

More anglers than ever visited Derwent reservoir with 16,998 fishing last year - up from 14,307 in 2009 and topping the record of 15,798 in 2004.
