A space race expert from the North-East is among the team of scientists in the hunt for the Beagle 2 probe which is believed to be lost on Mars.

Dr Edward Chester - who is from Morpeth, Northumberland - is based at the mission control centre in Leicester where the hunt for the British Red Planet-bound spacecraft has been co-ordinated since its signal disappeared on Christmas Day.
