Northumberland's hopes of making it to Twickenham for the second successive season were shattered by Gloucestershire who held on to win this Tetley's County Championship semi-final at Lydney.

But Northumberland gave last season's losing county finalists a run for their money and came close to being the fourth North-East side to play at Twickenham this season with the Falcons winning the Powergen Cup there, Durham the British Universities Championship and Barnard Castle missing out on the National Schools Cup.
