Don't get excited, but the news that Nantucket Island, a famed haunt of the great and good off the North-East coast of the USA, was to ban major retail brands from its high street is a trend in retailing which will not reach the shores of Great Britain.

The Nantucket move is seen as one to protect local traders from discount retailers ( a category into which blue-chip stores in this country fall because of their bulk-purchasing powers.
