Nfu Urges Bluetongue Areas Livestock Ban ; Farming

Summary


THE National Farmers Union has called on the Government to ban imports of livestock from bluetongue affected areas of Northern Europe following the discovery of the disease in a consignment of cattle imported from the Netherlands to a farm near Worc ester.

The NFU claims the animals appear not to have been tested before leaving a bluetongue protection zone and Defra did not know of the consignment, with the result that the animals were not tested on entry to the UK.
