Retailers queuing up to get into central Newcastle are needing much larger outlets in many cases. It is not unheard of to hear that the size requirement is from 8,000 sq ft to 17,000 sq ft, 15,000 sq ft to 25,000 sq ft or 10,000 sq ft to 16,000 sq ft.

These are current examples. True, the scale does swing up to 200,000 sq ft for a department store and down to an almost kiosk size for the smaller niche operator but there is now a firm strata of retailers with very significant space needs.
