More than 40,000 Eastern Europeans have come to the North-East to work over the past two years with thousands of new migrants applying every month for jobs, it has been revealed.

Despite Government pledges that just 13,000 people a year would seek work in the UK following EU expansion, new figures have revealed that in the North-East alone there were 40,765 migrants approved for work up to June this year.
