Matthey Upbeat As Its Profits Rise by 20%

Materials technology company Johnson Matthey said growth in precious metals and ceramics businesses had more than compensated for a shortfall at its pharmaceuticals arm.

The company, which employs more than 550 people at the former Synetix catalysts operation on Teesside, said pre-tax profits rose 20% to pounds 106.4m in its first half.
