AT last someone in authority has questioned the social value of banks. Most people welcomed Adair Turner's critique of banks whose sole function is self-enrichment.
Obviously, many bankers and the heads of professional associations have squealed like pigs caught in gin traps at the thought of a tax on self-interested speculation. The general public are not scared or perturbed by this crying out - or threats that these precious kleptocrats will all move overseas - as we have had to bear the brunt of their greed and incompetence, and will have to continue doing so for decades.See the full content of this document
