A NORTH pilot last night told of his amazing survival by landing a plane that was plunging towards the sea, 10 miles from land. Travel firm boss Mark Eddleston saved himself and two friends when the engine on the hired Cessna plane lost power halfway across the English Channel.

The plane was falling at 300ft a minute as the 24-year-old radioed for help. He managed to glide the plane the entire 10 miles to the island of Alderney reaching the runway with only yards to spare.
