A couple hatched a plot to defraud their insurers by falsely claiming their home had been burgled, a court heard.

Mark Blackwell and Margaret MacFarlane came up with the scam after forcing their own door when they accidently locked themselves out by leaving the key inside. They later reported to police their home had been burgled and various items stolen and MacFarlane later contacted Direct Insurance claiming pounds 1,630 worth of property had been taken.
