CONCERNS are growing that livestock farmers may be hit with a price hike in the form of higher meat inspection charges at abattoirs in England and Wales.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is recommending that the charges are increased by between 4% and 9%. It has been consulting on the issue ahead of the introduction of new official meat controls on June 29.
