MY late father merits the "Warmingham-on-Sea" soubriquet far more than I (Voice of the North, May 25). He was in the Home Guard and once arrested a policeman who was unable to identify himself while Dad was guarding a factory. Make no mistake, the Germans are running Europe, though the rocky state of the euro will be the cause of much heart-fluttering in those countries which unwisely joined the single currency. Things look bad for them.

The Little Englander may yet have the last laugh. We deserve it after the huge sacrifices made in the Second World War. Quite a few folk show signs of amnesia (or obliviousness) about this event.
