PLANS to rescue a unique historic house in County Durham known as the home of much-loved author Robert Smith Surtees have received further support. Hamsterley Hall, near Consett, is in poor condition and almost derelict in parts and work is urgently needed to preserve it.
A planning application to restore the 18th century building is due to be heard by Durham county planning committee on Tuesday. Planning officers are recommending its approval and the proposal is supported by English Heritage.See the full content of this document
