The infamous wind of Whitley Bay Golf Club was playing happily on the mind of Julie Ross yesterday as she kept the North-East flag flying high at the English Women's Close Amateur Championship.

After two days of calm on the Church Brampton track, the wind got up as the Northumbria University student battled through the matchplay rounds to reach the quarter-finals for the first time.
