THE Liberal Democrats splashed out thousands of pounds just get people to come and see party leader Nick Clegg.

In a move branded as "truly pathetic" by Labour, the Lib Dems spent more than pounds 8,000 hiring an outside company to find audiences for Mr Clegg's "town hall" meetings - including one in Gateshead.
