AT last! Winter has arrived in our tiny enclave in south east Northumberland and to be honest, I quite enjoy it. I realise that there are now villagers in Rothbury, in particular, shaking shivering hands in my direction and chattering many oaths, but winter in its correct slot is something I like.
Of course, there have been worse winters, but it's interesting to see the reactions compared to days of my youth. I trudged up to the paper shop this morning in the teeth of a howling light zephyr and ploughed my way through snowdrifts up to three inches deep in places.See the full content of this document
