NORTHUMBERLAND County Council's support for the application by Sita UK to double the size of the landraise of garbage in the green belt at Seghill was predictable.

We gave it our best, but ranged against the professional campaigning of a multi-national company desperate for profits, and a timid planning committee at County Hall, I and the other speakers were unable to stop the importation of garbage from Gateshead, Newcastle, South and North Shields. It will, I am sure, turn a handsome profit for someone.
