YOUR article "Pubs take on big boys" (The Journal, October 14) demonstrates two aspects of the impact of supermarkets on traditional British habits.
One is arguably a benefit: it is the responses that traditional businesses are having to make to the threat supermarkets pose to their businesses. Those that can survive a long battle with the supermarkets are having to make themselves more attractive to customers. The Head of Steam in Newcastle is to be applauded for its imaginative voucher scheme for "off sales".See the full content of this document
