AS highlighted by author Terry Pratchett, who has early-onset Alzheimer's, the amount of money committed to medical research into these types of conditions remains pitifully low.
As a charity for older people, this issue is very high on Help the Aged's agenda and that is why we have committed to raising funds to support an eight year medical research project called The Disconnected Mind (www.disconnectedmind.org.uk). The project aims to find the causes of early mental decline that so often precedes debilitating severe dementia. If we are to attain the successes for dementia that we now enjoy in cancer treatments, we need to invest in research into dementia now.See the full content of this document
