IN response to the letter from David Carter (Voice of the North, October 13), the soundtrack to the film Local Hero was written by Mark Knopfler, a true local hero who comes from Newcastle and is also a true Newcastle United fan, hence the connection.

It's sad to read such angry comments from such an obviously jealous rival, so here's a thought: instead of looking towards Newcastle with those green monster eyes, why not think a bit more positive about your area, a good example being those two great icons of rock music, the great Paul Rodgers and the brilliant David Coverdale, both from Teesside (Middlesbrough and Saltburn respectively)?
