Summary
Last week's pronouncement by the Equal Opportunities Commission that workplaces and public life remain desperately unequal and that generations will pass before equality gaps are closed will be a surprise to few. The report showing the opportunity chasm facing under-served groups was nonetheless a useful, if painful, reminder of the equality challenge we face throughout the UK, but particularly in the North-East and Cumbria.
