Former welder Keith Miller set up his own company in 1978. Miller UK Ltd is now one of the world's leading manufacturers of buckets and quick couplers for large earth moving machines with customers including Caterpillar, Komatsu and JCB. Based in Cramlington, it also has a factory in China.
"Pressure for manufacturers comes from increases both in labour costs and the price of raw materials, which for us is primarily steel. To protect our margins China was the place to consider.
