Last week Tony Blair said: "Absolutely nothing should come between protecting the people of this country from the tyranny of organised crime."
He was announcing the formation of SOCA, the FBI-type organisation which will target the drug barons making millions out of misery. I couldn't agree more with getting tough on the big boys. Their antics fuel most of the petty crime we endure today, but my enthusiasm for Mr Blair's clarion call was diminished by news that rules sent to police forces by the Home Office apparently advise that burglars can be let off with a caution and need not be charged.See the full content of this document
